Does your tween have a tough ride?

Is your tween obsessed with skincare … or jelly cats? Because we’re (mistakenly) told that it can’t be both. We generally have expectations about the behaviour and interests of younger children – and again when they hit the hormone-fuelled teen years.

But those in the inbetweeny stage – the 9-12 year olds – can often have tough ride. It’s ok for them to feel like experimenting with simple make-up one minute and playing with Barbies the next. There’s no clear ruleset at any age, but it all feels particularly blurred at that age. To me, it feels like there’s a real shortage of activities / clothes / TV programmes that hit the mark for them.

I started my events to respond to the lack of pre-teen fun and a desire to hold them close a little longer. As they develop their own identity and voice, they love dipping their toe into the water of self care, but also spending time with their parents and getting creative. In our house, our tweens also love something as simple as a bike ride, movie night or café trip. I’d love to hear what activities you enjoy doing with your tween?
