What the five blue zones have in common

What the five blue zones have in common

Mindfulness – but not in the way you’re thinking. In its broadest sense, being mindful is the state of being fully conscious or aware when taking action. Rather than quick and mindless shopping, we’re trying to make more considered decisions to improve our health and environmental impact:

·        Ditching the Tupperware. Heating plastic in a dishwasher or microwave leaches harmful chemicals. We use metal lunchboxes and bottles, and ceramic or glass containers for leftovers

·         Having a weekly organic fruit and veg box. If it’s come from South America and swathed in plastic, do we really need it?

·         Looking at clothes labels and trying to choose organic linen, cotton or Tencel where we can. Polyester takes hundreds of years to break down

·         Scanning cosmetics with the Think Dirty app to check for potentially toxic ingredients

·         Gradually switching to plant-derived cleaning products in refillable aluminium bottles.

It’s definitely a journey and we have a LOT to learn and a long way to go but it's a start!
