I've noticed more sugar creeping into our diet lately (blame Easter or the weather). While I don't believe it's right to demonise or fixate on any foods, especially in front of children, it won't hurt us to restore a little more balance. There's been some new evidence recently about sugar and its effect on health, and a lot of media noise. The recent Diary of a CEO podcast interview with Jessie Inchauspé, the Glucose Goddess, is definitely worth a listen. And it got me thinking about some small changes we can make to enjoy what we eat, without the sugar roller coaster.
So we’re challenging ourselves to eat a (predominately)
savoury breakfast this week, and see how it makes us feel. We’re also starting our
dinners with some crudites or salad as the fibre slows down the spike from
starches and sugars. And I’ve made a large batch of my favourite sugar-free
banana and cacao loaf which is a game changer.
Today’s breakfast was burritos – wholemeal wraps with scrambled
egg, spinach and home-made baked beans. Other ideas we’re planning
are cheese and veggie omelettes, and seeded bagels topped with peanut butter or
avocado.
